by experience, following tips perhaps could help you to find better furniture;

(1) you see the folding chair I fold and make it stand? if you could do this-in one of your folding you'd like to buy, so the factory of this furniture using machine made to produce this chair (remember in outdoor furniture, full machine made is prefer rather than hand made).

(2) check the slat using your finger by pushing back or pull up and either by take some slat together and do squash it. If you feel the slat wobbly, don't take it. Factory with machine made process usually used tenon and mortise for the slat.

(3) find if there any pencil mark on the the connection between top rest and slat or underneath of chair. If you found it, so better you leave it. That chair comes from hand made production. In full machine made production, there's almost nothing using pencil as guidance.

(4) check the hardware. brass fitting. Prefer buy who use solid brass fitting. In short sight, if you find any black scratch or rusted factor on the brass fitting, don't buy it. It made from casting brass not solid brass! Casting brass in Java, made traditionally by melted some of brass metal rubbish and pouring into mold which made from sand. It is incredible process how it come be a nice brass fitting. But made traditionally makes there are any bubble leave inside the fitting. So the possibility to crack the fitting is high. Perhaps choice using stainless steel is something I recommended as with brass fitting you will face 'corrosion' happened because brass is oxidize with oxygen.

I just start arranging my old files and I found this photo in my folders. Some people called it kidney table, banana table or peanut table. I snap couple year ago in a village of Indonesia together with my other banana bench. Its not really good picture as this banana side table doesn't have color harmony yet. I mean; you know the white wood color compare with others? This is because the factory who made this banana table used young teak wood. Something not supposed to be fitted in one single furniture. You will face more cracking risk in this situation.

So, if you comes from European country perhaps this folding chair is already familiar with you. Called with name ergonomic folding chair is because the slat is little bit curve. Using small slat with brass fitting install for the moving component, it is really very good design I ever met. The nice things about this folding chair either is made with good precision design. When you folded this folding chair in full straight, you will able to stand it; and I called this 'balanced design'. Pack in carton per pair. And there are standardization to avoid finger trap using non allowance gap in between 7-12 cm.

For sure this folding chair already well known from you nor people of the world. One of my customers before from Netherland called this chair Viking Folding Side Chair, but in origin country most people called it "kursi munyuk" meaning monkey chair. In my opinion this chair really has problem in design. You know why? the gap of small slat in seat or back seat it is really dangerous for kids. Imagine the small fingers will be bind over there. Did you ready for the cost of compensation ?
In other hand, this folding chair is only can be made by carpenter (hand made). Please notes in outdoor furniture; hand made (or some people called semi machine made) is meaning of poor quality furniture. The slat component is to thin to made by machine made. From the factory its not efficient to make this kind of furniture. The price is to low when cost of production too high for this one. So, just give you a clue; if you order this folding chair from factory they will absolutely ordered to someone else to make it. Last year in Central Java you could buy this chair direct from factory for $8 - $12 when retailer sell this chair $95 - $100 for the end customers.

its already long time I'm not found this kind bench have been order. the most thing I know the price is really high. And considering a long wood using for the top back seat ~ mostly in single piece of woods ~ I don't think so you will easily find this bench on the market.
If you look carefully either, the slat in seat using very long component wood to made it. Except you modified the design by made the long wood using two pieces component, the price will higher.
With making 2 component I think will not affect the appearance of the bench but indeed give you value of money. Search in internet recently, I found either bench design with small slat in the seat.

Banana Bench – Teakwood

One of the famous design ever had in outdoor furniture. People called it Banana bench or Peanut Bench. The design is strong, sturdy and comfort. It's pity this design consumptives too much woods (teak material). Not only because the big dimension it has but either needed long wood material to make it. It is almost impossible you'll get the big diameter of teak wood presently. Most of this bench made from the bottom of teak wood or root of it.

In the market usually banana bench made with 3 sizes; 120cm, 150cm and 180 cm ~ all is three seater bench. People can put a cushion to maximize the sitting comfort but use it or not, it is still one of the good furniture bench.

I can't find any related information about who's designer of this bench, but as this typical american design (~ who like big, straight, solid) so I assumed perhaps this design comes from there (or perhaps Germany either).

One of retailer in UK sell this bench at £369.00 when you could find this bench in Australia with $879 retail price or in United States the price around $1.300 (it is not a cheap bench)
