by experience, following tips perhaps could help you to find better furniture;

(1) you see the folding chair I fold and make it stand? if you could do this-in one of your folding you'd like to buy, so the factory of this furniture using machine made to produce this chair (remember in outdoor furniture, full machine made is prefer rather than hand made).

(2) check the slat using your finger by pushing back or pull up and either by take some slat together and do squash it. If you feel the slat wobbly, don't take it. Factory with machine made process usually used tenon and mortise for the slat.

(3) find if there any pencil mark on the the connection between top rest and slat or underneath of chair. If you found it, so better you leave it. That chair comes from hand made production. In full machine made production, there's almost nothing using pencil as guidance.

(4) check the hardware. brass fitting. Prefer buy who use solid brass fitting. In short sight, if you find any black scratch or rusted factor on the brass fitting, don't buy it. It made from casting brass not solid brass! Casting brass in Java, made traditionally by melted some of brass metal rubbish and pouring into mold which made from sand. It is incredible process how it come be a nice brass fitting. But made traditionally makes there are any bubble leave inside the fitting. So the possibility to crack the fitting is high. Perhaps choice using stainless steel is something I recommended as with brass fitting you will face 'corrosion' happened because brass is oxidize with oxygen.
